Soccer stars and their Super Bowl LX loyalties
It’s Super Bowl weekend and the game has become a global event. The NFL’s overseas expansion and regular-season games abroad have helped convert fans around the world, including some well-known soccer players. This year’s matchup pairs the New England Patriots with the Seattle Seahawks, and both teams count notable soccer supporters.
Among Patriots fans is Harry Kane, who became a supporter during the Tom Brady era, attended the Patriots' 2019 Super Bowl win over the LA Rams and has even spoken about a future as a kicker. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has represented the Patriots, often alongside Sam and Kristie Mewis; the sisters grew up as die-hard Boston sports fans and remain connected to the team despite their career travels.
Asmir Begovic, who spent part of his childhood in Canada, has posted frequently about his love for the Patriots and called Brady "the Greatest QB to have ever played the game, no doubt about it." Seattle natives DeAndre Yedlin and Jordan Morris back the Seahawks.
