Solasta 2 feels like a modest step up from the original, with several small improvements that add up. A handful of named voice actors lift the performances, the writing is a bit less cornball, the update to D&D's 2024 rules makes weapon choices more meaningful, and the character creator is less likely to strand you with a party of freaks—though it can still be hard to make distinctly different-looking characters.

You play as four adopted siblings, and the story begins with your mother's funeral. Combat leans into terrain and setpieces. Encounters have included exploding rockmen, terror birds that attack from ground level while their masters fire from above, and harpies that try to divide the party with mind-control magic, with Calm Emotions proving a useful counter.

Most NPCs navigate the maps well, but a few enemies have lingered at the edge as if they hadn't noticed the party.
