Previously inactive computer terminals in Bungie’s newly released Marathon have started broadcasting, and someone is speaking to players through them. When Marathon launched on Thursday, players noticed switched-off terminals that closely resembled the text-log terminals from Bungie’s original Marathon trilogy in the ’90s, which often relayed mission notes or conversations with AIs such as Durandal—an intelligent, psychotic figure who sought to escape the universe’s collapse and achieve immortality.

On March 6, a little over 24 hours after launch, Bungie unlocked a new level for players at least level 12 to explore and loot. Around the same time, players found the classic-looking terminals active: they can display map locations, and traveling to those points reveals another terminal and a voice message.

The voice in videos shared online closely resembles Ben Starr, who voiced the “narrator” in last year’s Marathon CG short; fans had previously speculated Starr was voicing Durandal, a hint that allegedly appears in the credits.
