Director Jeff Fowler has shared the first behind-the-scenes image from the set of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, showing him in a field with a blue screen and a large "4" behind him. He holds a clapperboard in one hand and Amy Rose's Piko Piko Hammer in the other, a nod to the character's inclusion, and reconfirmed the film's release date as Mar.

19, 2027. Less than two weeks before Fowler's update, Kristen Bell was announced to play Amy Rose. The live-action franchise, which has starred Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Jim Carrey, is expected to bring back most of its main cast, with Idris Elba and Colleen O'Shaughnessey also presumed to return.

The post-credits scene in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 teased both Metal Sonic and Amy Rose and suggested the sequel will draw from Sonic the Hedgehog CD, a game known for its use of time travel and a future version of Doctor Ivo Robotnik (Eggman) who created Metal Sonic.
