Sony to Close Bluepoint Games, Citing 'Increasingly Challenging Industry Environment'
Sony will close Bluepoint Games in March, five years after acquiring the studio. Hermen Hulst said the decision reflects an "increasingly challenging industry environment," pointing to rising development costs, slowed industry growth, changing player behavior, and broader economic headwinds.
He thanked Bluepoint for its "creativity, craftmanship, and commitment to quality" and said the company will seek opportunities for some impacted employees within its global studios. Bluepoint is best known for critically acclaimed remakes, including a PS5 Demon’s Souls remake and a PS4 Shadow of the Colossus remake; Sony reported Demon’s Souls sold 1.4 million copies in the hardware’s launch year.
Instead of continuing on that path, the Texas-based studio was assigned to a live-service God of War spin-off that was canceled in early 2025. Bluepoint also co-developed 2022’s God of War Ragnarök.
