Sony is developing an animated Venom movie rather than a new live-action entry, and Tom Hardy is expected to have some part in the project, though he will not be returning to on-screen portrayals of Eddie Brock.

The studio appears to be following the Spider-Verse model after a mixed run with its own universe of Marvel villain films, where Hardy’s Venom trilogy stood out as the clear exception.

Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing and producing duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines, are attached to direct and produce. Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are likely to return after producing the live-action Venom movies.

Hardy is expected to be involved in some capacity, but whether he will voice the symbiote or contribute behind the scenes has not been revealed. A writers’ room is being opened, and no writer is currently attached to the project.
