Sony includes removable fitting cushions with LinkBuds Clip to improve fit
Sony's LinkBuds Clip come with removable ear-fitting cushions that address common fit and stability issues with clip-on open-ear earbuds, ZDNET reviewer Jada Jones wrote.
Jones said the cushions dramatically change how the earbuds fit and perform, closing the gap between the earbuds' hooks and the ear so the cushions engage the helix as an additional support anchor. The cushions are included with the purchase, she noted, similar to eartip replacements for in‑canal earbuds, and can help users who otherwise experience pressure, pinching or soreness from clip-on designs.
The reviewer added that a poor fit can harm audio quality and voice pickup, and that a more stable fit is especially important for exercise when vigorous movement can disrupt fit. Jones said fitting the cushions kept the LinkBuds Clip more stable, reducing speaker movement and making audio delivery more consistent, to the point she could see herself wearing them for most of a workday.
Jones called the cushions a dramatic improvement and said she hopes other manufacturers follow Sony's lead. ZDNET noted clip-on earbuds are becoming popular and that Sony's entry further solidifies that trend, while warning that a universal form factor can still isolate some consumers; at the LinkBuds Clip's $230 price point, ZDNET said a maximized fit and audio experience is a must.
