Reporting by Kotaku says Sony was granted a patent for AI-generated podcasts starring PlayStation characters as a marketing tool. The patent, titled 'LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers,' was applied for in July 2024 and granted last month. The filing argues that video game platforms lack the ability to provide unique, targeted content to update gamers about platform activity.

The proposed system would produce daily AI-generated podcasts in which characters such as Parappa the Rapper, Ellie, Jin Sakai, Nathan Drake, Ratchet and Kratos recap a player’s recent gameplay, recommend titles, report friends’ achievements, and update players on patches and releases.

The podcasts would be personalized using recent play history and a player’s friends list, and examples in the filing include characters roasting poor performance. Sony applied for the patent before a leaked 2025 tech demo showing an AI-powered Aloy from Horizon.
