Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the Austin studio behind the Shadow of the Colossus remake and the PlayStation 5 launch game Demon's Souls. Bluepoint will be the third Sony-owned studio to be axed in the past two years, after mobile-focused Neon Koi and Concord creator Firewalk Studios.

Bluepoint earned a reputation as PlayStation’s go-to remake team, entrusted with Metal Gear Solid and God of War collections. After its 2021 acquisition, co-founder and president Marco Thrush said the studio wanted to move from restoring others’ work to creating original games.

That transition did not come to fruition. Bluepoint’s unannounced original project — reportedly a live-service God of War title — was scrapped in early 2025, and subsequent pitches weren’t greenlit, a sequence of events that led to the studio’s closure. Fans have reacted angrily, seeing Bluepoint as a team that could faithfully make old games shine anew.
