3 arrested after South Carolina woman who thought she was buying a puppy was killed
Authorities say Dana Marie Kinlaw, 40, of Olanta, S.C., was found shot dead and set on fire in a vehicle in Effingham on Jan. 22 after she believed she was meeting someone to buy a puppy, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office responded to a vehicle engulfed in flames on Atlantic Road near Springbranch Road on Jan.
22 and found Kinlaw inside, the release said; deputies arrived at the scene at around 5:45 p.m., WMBF reported. Coroner Von Lutcken ordered an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The release alleges that Iryanna Jarissa Fleming, 19, and Daquinn Taheen Thomas, 31, intentionally shot Kinlaw and then set her body on fire inside the vehicle.
Fleming and Thomas were arrested and charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and are being held pending a bond hearing, the sheriff’s office said. A third suspect, Nikko Christopher Carraway, 31, was arrested and charged on Jan. 28 with Murder, First-Degree Arson and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Sheriff TJ Joye told WPDE.
Joye told WMBF investigators believe the killing was retaliation related to a Darlington County murder and said an arrest in Lake City connected those cases; he added investigators feel Kinlaw’s son was involved in that earlier case. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
