Spain v Argentina: Finalissima could be played in Milan
The Finalissima between European champions Spain and South American, and world, champions Argentina could be staged in Milan, with San Siro proposed as the venue for the match on Friday 27 March.
The fixture’s original host was Qatar — the stadium that held the 2022 World Cup final won by Argentina — but the ongoing war in the Middle East has forced FIFA to find an alternative location.
Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid had emerged as a leading backup, yet CONMEBOL would prefer a neutral site to spare Scaloni’s Argentina an away fixture.
Only two options now remain: Milan or Lisbon. Lisbon is attractive from a logistical standpoint, having hosted the 2020 Champions League Finals after the Covid lockdown, but San Siro’s allure and the strong response to the Milan–Cortina opening ceremony could sway the decision.
