Benjamin Sesko’s Manchester United career divides into two distinct periods. In the first he played 1,404 minutes and scored two goals; in the second he has played 274 minutes and scored six, moving from 702 minutes per goal to 45 minutes 40 seconds per goal. On 4 January he had a quiet game at Leeds — no shots on target, 76% passing, no dribbles, five lost possessions and two offsides — and on 5 January Ruben Amorim was sacked; the next day Sesko scored both goals in a 2-2 draw at Burnley.

There is a clear link between the managerial change and the revival. The post‑Amorim transformation was immediate, the Slovene scoring three goals in his two games under Darren Fletcher as interim manager, and after coming off the bench to score the winner at Everton he spoke of the importance of his sense that "everyone believes in me".
