Copies of the PS4 version of Star Wars Racer Revenge have surged in price after the game was identified as a key part of a PlayStation 5 jailbreak, Eurogamer reports.

The title began life as a PS2 game released in 2002 and was ported to PS4 by Limited Run Games in 2019. Its role in the PS5 exploit was announced on December 31.

According to Eurogamer, the jailbreak for PS5 firmware 12.00 relies on a bug in the game’s Hall of Fame feature that can be used to inject code into the console. Because the PS5 can load PS4 discs, the retail PS4 release provides an easier route for the exploit, and retail discs are harder for Sony to patch than digital copies.

When it first went on sale, the Limited Run PS4 release retailed for roughly $14.99 to $37.50. Used copies are now listed for as much as $411 on eBay as sellers raise prices to capitalize on demand.

Limited Run says it produced just 8,500 copies, making the release relatively scarce; that limited supply, combined with interest in the jailbreak, has driven up prices.
