Starfleet Academy finale explains why Discovery didn't intervene
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1, Episode 10, "Rubincon." Fans long expected a USS Discovery cameo as the series unfolded, and Mary Wiseman's confirmed return as Lt. Tilly only increased those hopes heading into the finale. Discovery's Spore Drive has always made it a standout ship, able to jump vast distances and remain unique in the fleet, so many assumed it would bypass the Omega mine perimeter set by Nus Braka.
The episode answers that directly: when Captain Ake asks, "Can they jump the perimeter through the Mycelial Network?" Admiral Vance replies, "No, the fields are synchronized at a subspace frequency. A jump might trigger a detonation." That explanation keeps Discovery and its crew from stepping in.
It reads like classic sci-fi technobabble designed to avoid a crossover, but it is the story's official rationale.
