A New York state judge set a June 8 trial date in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, ending a nearly yearlong fight over whether state or federal prosecutors would try Luigi Mangione first. The short, contentious hearing ended with Mangione shouting "double jeopardy" as he was led back to jail: "It's the same trial twice.

One plus one equals two. Double jeopardy by any common sense definition." The defense had urged that the state murder trial be held after a federal fatal-stalking trial; that federal case will now go second, with jury selection set for September 8 and opening statements for October 13.
