SteamOS 3.8 improves support for non‑Valve handhelds and Steam Machine
SteamOS 3.8.0 Preview adds initial support for the Steam Machine, which is described as shipping with a Zen 4 CPU and a semi‑custom RDNA 3 GPU. The update also improves compatibility with recent Intel and AMD platforms and greatly improves video memory management on systems with discrete GPUs.
The release brings a range of fixes and new features for third‑party handhelds. Power button short and long presses are now supported across many devices, and controller support has been expanded for OneXPlayer F1 series, GPD Win 5, GPD Win Mini, Anbernic Win600, OrangePi NEO, and Lenovo Legion Go, with added support for OneXPlayer X1 series and Lenovo Legion Go 2.
The Legion Go 2 also gains system and controller firmware update support, RGB LED controller color settings, and preliminary charge‑limiting (currently accessible in Desktop Mode).
