Steelers to interview Brian Flores and Mike McCarthy for head coach job
Cbssports reports Brian Flores and Mike McCarthy are among the candidates being interviewed for the Pittsburgh Steelers' head coaching vacancy after Mike Tomlin decided to step down. The team is set to meet with Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator and former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores on Tuesday and former Packers and Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy on Wednesday, and will also interview Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver in person.
Pittsburgh completed virtual interviews with San Francisco offensive coordinator Klay Kubiac, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, and previously spoke with former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who accepted the Dolphins' job.
Flores, 44, previously worked on the Steelers' staff in 2022 as a defensive assistant and linebackers coach and is viewed as a defensive-minded candidate with experience under Bill Belichick; McCarthy, 62, is a Pittsburgh native who led the Packers to a Super Bowl XLV win over the Steelers and is noted for his offensive play-calling and development of quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love.
