Steve Carell HBO Comedy Rooster Climbs U.S. Streaming Charts
Steve Carell returns to television as the lead of Rooster, which premiered March 8 and opened as HBO's most-watched comedy debut in the United States in over a decade. The series drew 2.4 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max in its first three days. The show has stayed strong on streaming, holding the number three spot this past week on HBO Max's U.S.
most-watched list. Rooster was created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, with Lawrence having co-developed Ted Lasso. Carell plays Greg Russo, a bestselling author who visits his daughter Katie (Charly Clive) at a New England liberal arts college after her husband Archie (Phil Dunster) leaves her.
The campus-set comedy follows their complicated relationship and Greg’s unexpected new role at the school, and also stars Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai. Critics have responded positively so far: Rooster holds an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 45 reviews and is Certified Fresh.
