Steve Martin and Martin Short paid tribute to Catherine O’Hara onstage during their "The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short" comedy show in Austin, Texas, just hours after the actress died on Jan. 30 at age 71, a rep confirmed to PEOPLE.

Onstage, Short, 75, raised a glass and said, "Catherine O’Hara, I met when she was 18 years of age," adding, "And all these years later, she had been the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us worked with." He and Martin, 80, then clinked glasses as the audience erupted into cheers, according to a video shared on TikTok.

O’Hara — known for roles in Home Alone, Beetlejuice, Best in Show and Schitt’s Creek — died in Los Angeles "after a brief illness," her rep told PEOPLE. She is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and her two sons, Matthew and Luke.

Many colleagues paid tribute, including Macaulay Culkin, who wrote on Instagram, "Mama. I thought we had time," and Eugene Levy, who said he had the honor of knowing and working with O’Hara for over fifty years. Dan Levy called her brilliance a gift and said he would cherish every funny memory he made with her.

Details about any services and the specifics of her illness have not been disclosed beyond the rep's statement that she died "after a brief illness."
