Steven Spielberg has worked across many genres, from war films such as Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List to dramas like The Color Purple and The Fabelmans. His next release, Disclosure Day, hits theaters this summer.

During a SXSW keynote conversation with Sean Fennessey, Spielberg said he is developing a Western. "I can't reveal anything right now, but I have something in development. And it kicks ass."

He said he hopes to shoot in Texas and promised the film will avoid familiar clichés: "There will be horses. There will be guns. There will be no tropes, I can tell you that. There's going to be no stereotypes." He kept further details under wraps.

Spielberg is often quick to develop and film projects, so the Western may gain traction sooner than fans expect. More details to follow.
