Stock market today: Dow soars 1,100 points as investors rush to buy the dip
US stocks jumped on Friday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied more than 1,100 points to close above 50,000 for the first time, finishing at 50,115.67. Tech stocks climbed broadly, the Nasdaq rose about 2%, and bitcoin bounced after its sharp decline earlier in the week.
The S&P 500 closed at 6,932.30, up 1.97%, while the Nasdaq Composite finished at 23,031.213, up 2.18%. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF surged nearly 4% but remained about 30% below its late‑last‑year peak. Amazon shares plunged after the company reported Q4 earnings, and silver slipped as much as 1% before recovering.
Buy-the-dip trading lifted a number of software and tech names: CoreWeave +20%, Circle Internet Group +14%, Super Micro Computer +11%, AMD +8%, Nvidia +8%, and Gen Digital +8%.
