A Copilot setting called "Microsoft usage data" can let the AI refer to information from Bing, MSN, Edge and other Microsoft products. The option appears under Memory on the Copilot website and in the mobile app and is reported to be relatively new. Memory lets Copilot recall your conversation history, any facts or instructions you share, and certain data from Microsoft products to personalize chats.

That can make follow-up questions easier and let the assistant tailor advice to your situation. Microsoft says it records conversations only for the limited purposes listed in its Privacy Statement — monitoring performance, troubleshooting, diagnosing bugs, preventing abuse and improving the product — and that this information won’t be used for AI model training, which is controlled by a separate setting.

Personalization also does not control targeted ads; ad settings are managed from the Personalized ads & offers section of your Microsoft Account. The personalization option may be turned on automatically.
