A filmed performance of the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow is set to be released on Netflix. Filming is expected to take place from Feb. 10 to 14, and there is no set release date yet. The First Shadow is a prequel that debuted on London’s West End in 2023 and is currently on Broadway.

The filmed performance will feature the original Broadway cast, including Louis McCartney as Henry Creel (aka Vecna), Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty Newby, T.R. Knight as Victor Creel, and Alex Breaux as Dr. Brenner. The play follows Henry Creel as a high-school student in Hawkins and shows him attending school with Jim Hopper and Joyce Maldonado (later Joyce Byers).

It focuses on Henry’s growing psychic powers, Dr. Brenner’s interest in him, and reveals how he developed those abilities—details the show’s final season explored but did not fully explain. Because parts of season five leaned on the play’s backstory, viewers who couldn’t see The First Shadow often turned to recaps to understand the series finale.
