Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and Hayao Miyazaki's son, director Goro Miyazaki, say the director has no plans for another retirement. Miyazaki turned 85 in January, and Goro said at a press conference that he expected his father might be getting old, but that's not the case: he is incredibly energetic and, Goro joked, his blood test results are better than his.

It'd be sad if he stopped making films, but we'd understand. Miyazaki has a distinct style that combines soft, painterly yet extremely vibrant backgrounds with simplified but expressive characters that are easy to fall in love with. The English dubs are very good too, though the piece recommends skipping the dub for Princess Mononoke. He has been making films since 1979.

If The Boy and the Heron, which explored themes of grief and featured voiceover work from Robert Pattinson, ends up being his last film, it wouldn't be a bad way to go out.
