Pokémon Go has introduced Super Mega Raids and a new currency, Link Charges. These raids debuted during Pokémon Go Tour: Kalos in Tainan, Taiwan and Los Angeles, and will launch worldwide on Feb. 28. Regular Mega Raids remain available; Super Mega Raids are tougher, require more people and offer better rewards.

In Super Mega Raids the enemy Pokémon can become "enraged" and gain shields that reduce damage. Each trainer can break only one shield, and any Mega-Evolved Pokémon in a party will automatically be sent out during the enraged period. Mega-Evolved Pokémon break shields more easily, though Primal Reversion Kyogre and Groudon are not included.

Targets appear to have at least eight shields, with some, like Mega Dragonite, reaching 10, and you do not necessarily have to break every shield to win — some groups defeated Mega Victreebell (eight shields) with four players. Players on The Silph Road have also noted heavier Mega Energy rewards from these raids.
