Benjamin Sesko came off the bench to give Manchester United the decisive goal at Everton, lifting them to fourth in the table and three points behind Aston Villa. The summer signing preserved Michael Carrick’s unbeaten start in charge, extending United’s run to five wins and one draw from six games as they pressed towards the Champions League places.

The match began in a frantic fashion: Thierno Barry blocked Senne Lammens’s clearance and Kobbie Mainoo squeezed a shot past Jordan Pickford before James Tarkowski scrambled the ball clear from the goal‑line. United’s fluid front line of Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha probed for openings, while Iliman Ndiaye drifted too deep at times and poor final balls blunted both sides’ best moves.

Shortly after the restart Ndiaye spun away from Casemiro to create a chance that led to Harrison Armstrong firing straight at Lammens. Mbeumo then volleyed over from close range and a clash with Tarkowski went unpunished.
