Sur Ronster fined after ebike swarm on Sydney Harbour Bridge
New South Wales police fined US social media personality Sur Ronster and issued two traffic infringement notices for alleged negligent driving after about 40 people on ebikes and motorcycles converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge in peak-hour traffic. The group rode along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited, then turned around and travelled through the city’s CBD and Haymarket.
Police described the ride-out as “incredibly irresponsible, stupid and downright dangerous.” Officers did not pursue the riders because of safety concerns, instead locating the group at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed. Assistant commissioner David Driver warned: “This had potential for people to be injured and killed.” On Saturday, police said they had issued Sur Ronster, 26, with two traffic infringement notices for negligent driving (with no death or previous bodily harm), carrying a penalty of $562 and three demerit points each, and that inquiries were continuing.
