Surfer hospitalised after shark bite near Point Plomer, NSW fourth attack in 48 hours
A 39-year-old surfer has been taken to hospital in a stable condition after being bitten by a shark off the Point Plomer campground on the New South Wales mid north coast, the state’s fourth reported incident in 48 hours. The Mid North Coast Local Health District said the man was in hospital with minor injuries after an animal bite.
Surf Life Saving NSW CEO Steven Pearce told the ABC the man escaped serious injury and was recovering with "minor cuts and grazes." Donna Wishart, a communications manager at Surf Life Saving NSW, said the agency had activated drone surveillance and lifeguard teams in the area near Crescent Head, who were travelling to the beach on jetskis, and Port Macquarie Australian Lifeguard Service said beaches between Town beach and Crescent Head had been closed.
The wider Sydney region has seen multiple incidents after heavy rain: a 12-year-old boy was bitten near Nielsen Park on Sunday, an 11-year-old had his board bitten at Dee Why on Monday, and a man thought to be in his 20s remained in critical condition after a bite at Manly on Monday evening.
