Nintendo released a Switch 2 system update that adds Handheld Boost Mode, which runs original Switch games in handheld as if they were docked. The feature leverages the Switch 2’s extra power and built-in 1080p screen to increase resolution and performance for compatible titles.

In Handheld Boost Mode, games treat attached Joy-Con 2 controllers as if they were a Pro Controller and the touch screen may be disabled; some on-screen instructions can be incorrect. Some games with motion and touch controls aren’t compatible, and certain titles — including Super Mario Maker 2, Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD — are blocked from the mode.

Handheld Boost Mode must be enabled manually under System > Nintendo Switch Software Handling, and Nintendo warns it may increase power consumption.
