Independent.co reports Liverpool progressed in the FA Cup with a 4-1 win over Barnsley at Anfield after Dominik Szoboszlai struck a 30-yard screamer but later gifted Barnsley a goal with an attempted backheel in his own six-yard box.

Jeremie Frimpong added a second for Liverpool before substitutes Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike scored to complete the victory; Wirtz’s goal was set up by an Ekitike backheel and curled in from 25 yards, and Ekitike finished a later move. Manager Arne Slot made six changes before bringing on Ibrahima Konate, Wirtz and Ekitike, and Liverpool are now unbeaten in 11 games and have booked a date with Brighton. Barnsley, 17th in League One, struck the woodwork inside 30 seconds and suffered their first defeat at Anfield since 1959.

Szoboszlai apologised: "Sorry to the team again. I made it hard for us. It was an easy mistake." Both managers criticised the effort — Slot said, "I don’t think you should do that in an FA Cup game or League Cup, a friendly game or even a training session," and Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane called it "a little bit disrespectful." The error allowed Adam Phillips to score for Barnsley, with Hourihane adding that it was a moment his player could look back on.
