Taken 3 Finds New Life on Streaming Despite Poor Reviews
Liam Neeson went more than five years without a hit until last year’s slapstick reboot of The Naked Gun, which grossed more than $100 million worldwide and became his first success since The Commuter (2018). The reboot poked fun at the action-star image he established beginning with Taken in 2008.
The original Taken was a surprise hit in 2008 with around $225 million globally, and Taken 2 followed in 2012 with over $375 million. 20th Century Fox pushed for a third film; Neeson initially resisted but returned after the studio met his reported $20 million asking fee.
Directed by Olivier Megaton, Taken 3 drew the trilogy’s worst reviews but still grossed about $325 million worldwide against a reported $48 million budget.
