Istanbul studio Talemonster raises $30 million for Match Valley
Businessinsider reports that Istanbul-based Talemonster Games, led by CEO and cofounder Irem Sumer, has raised $30 million in a Series A round led by Arcadia Gaming Partners and Andreessen Horowitz to support its mobile puzzle game Match Valley.
The five cofounders quit their jobs to build Match Valley and previously raised $7 million in a seed round in February. The team launched the game in August with about 200 levels, but players consumed that content in roughly 10 days, forcing the studio to build more levels. Sumer said the game's core audience remains female dominant, with players spending about one and a half hours on average and roughly two and a half hours on their first day; the title monetizes through in-app purchases. The round included participation from Point72 Ventures and General Catalyst, and the company has grown to a remote team of 32.
Talemonster plans to use the funding to expand Match Valley and to build a new game slated for release this year. Sumer said she does not plan to hire many more people, preferring lean teams with high responsibility, and advised founders to be brave, choose partners and investors who share their vision, and remember to celebrate wins.
