Institutional engagement with digital assets now follows varied paths. Some firms pursue tokenization, turning traditional instruments into programmable assets, while banks experiment with tokenized deposits, internal settlement rails and issuing their own digital assets such as stablecoins.

Samar Sen, Head of International Markets at Talos, outlined how those choices are shaped by internal governance at Liquidity Summit 2026 in Hong Kong. Regulatory clarity remains the most decisive factor for institutional participation, Sen said: "We’ve seen a lot of advancements in regulation all over the world." Infrastructure has also matured, with institutional-grade custody, execution platforms and portfolio management systems operating across major markets.

Even so, initiatives often stall because management needs time to understand the technology; that hesitation frequently reflects unfamiliarity rather than outright resistance. Trust is built on compliance and operational controls more than visibility.
