Targaryen family in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms explained
Gamesradar reports that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 2 introduces this generation's Targaryens when the royal house arrives at Ashdown Meadow for the tourney, with Aerion Targaryen taking part.
Maekar is identified as the Prince of Summerhall and the fourth son of King Daeron II; he is Aerion's father and has five other children, including two sons who are currently missing, Daeron and Aegon. Aerion, known as Aerion the Monstrous, is Maekar's second son and is the family member competing at the tourney. Baelor is Maekar's older brother, the Hand of the King and heir to the throne, and his darker hair is attributed to his mother, Queen Myriah Martell of Dorne.
The series places Maekar as Daenerys Targaryen's great-great-great-grandfather, and notes that Maekar's son Aemon (not yet seen in this series) is the elderly Maester Aemon encountered by Jon Snow in Game of Thrones; Maekar is also described as the great-great-grandson of Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen from House of the Dragon. Nearly all Targaryen dragons died during the Dance of the Dragons and the few survivors soon perished, so the era of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a dragon-less period between the two shows.
The piece notes that dragons are expected to return in House of the Dragon season 3 and that new episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are released weekly on HBO/HBO Max and Sky Atlantic/NOW.
