ABC pulled Season 22 of The Bachelorette after a video from 2023 surfaced that appears to show Taylor Frankie Paul violently attacking her ex, Dakota Mortensen. The network said it would not move forward with the season and that its focus was on supporting the family; Paul’s representative said she is “very grateful for ABC’s support as she prioritizes her family’s safety and security.” Attorney Ashlee Difuntorum of Kinsella Holley Iser Kump Steinsapir LLP noted that contracts for public figures typically contain broad morality clauses barring conduct that would reflect negatively on the company.

Such clauses often state that a breach can void promised payments and may include liquidated damages or an obligation to indemnify the company, which could require returning money that has already been paid. Difuntorum added that networks usually contract with production companies, which then contract with contestants, crew and vendors.
