Taylor Sheridan neo-Western predating Yellowstone climbs streaming charts
Taylor Sheridan, known for his work in the neo-Western vein, wrote Hell or High Water, a 102-minute contemporary Western released on August 11, 2016. The film reunited Sheridan with actors Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges and was directed by David Mackenzie. Hell or High Water follows Toby, a divorced father trying to make a better life, whose ex-con brother returns and draws him into a string of bank heists that attract the obsession of a local lawman.
The film earned 97% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $37 million at the box office against a $12 million budget. In America, Hell or High Water is streaming exclusively on Netflix, while globally it has become one of the most popular purchases on Apple TV in several countries.
Sheridan has worked with Paramount for years, but Yellowstone is the only one of his shows not streaming on Paramount after a deal moved the series to a new home.
