Taylor Sheridan Will Never Beat His 3-Year Neo-Western Streak
Reflecting on his exit from Sons of Anarchy, Taylor Sheridan said, "I decided right there that I didn't want to be 11 on the call sheet for the rest of my life!" The move proved a blessing: he became a highly valuable TV producer and is now closely associated with the modern Western, even earning induction into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Sheridan's peak came with three consecutive neo-Western films. He wrote Sicario, a 2015 thriller about an FBI agent enlisted to take down a cartel, which drew Denis Villeneuve to direct and earned Oscar nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Sound Editing.
Hell or High Water followed, a story of two brothers who rob banks to save their ranch; its script—originally titled Comancheria and a Black List winner—helped the film land four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and a Supporting Actor nod for Jeff Bridges.
