Team USA hockey stars call truce on SNL after Trump remark
Members of the US Olympic women’s and men’s hockey teams appeared alongside actor Connor Storrie on "Saturday Night Live" to call a truce after President Trump snubbed the women in a "distasteful and unfortunate" remark. Hilary Knight, the women’s team’s captain, joined by Megan Keller and the US men’s players Jack and Quinn Hughes, took part in the "Heated Rivalry" star’s opening monologue.
Wearing their gold medals and jerseys, Knight quipped, "It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too," and Keller added, "Yeah, we thought we’d give them a little moment to shine." Storrie noted his show "speaks to people who are not always represented in hockey," calling it "really great to have actual hockey legends here tonight" and pointing out that both teams had just won gold.
Knight’s quip referred to the controversy that began when Trump called the US men’s team to congratulate them on their win at the Milan Cortina Games on Feb.
