China's Tecno Mobile drew crowds at MWC Barcelona with a lineup of unconventional phones. The Tecno Pova Neon is a concept handset that uses actual ionized neon gas to light its rear panel, producing a dynamic, lightning-like display that behaves in a truly random way.

It may not make the phone any more useful, but it will certainly turn heads when pulled from a pocket at a business meeting. Another showcase was Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, a design that begins with an incredibly thin, basic phone and expands through magnetically attached modules.

Modules can be stacked onto other modules, so users could add two batteries, a battery and an extra speaker, or a speaker and an improved camera; some attachments are heavier and larger than the phone itself. All of the gadgets on display were designed to be incredibly easy to connect with the phone and with one another.
