Ten family films ranked for cross-generational appeal
Collider published a ranked list of what it calls the 10 most perfect family movies, running from Paddington at No. 10 to Back to the Future at No. 1.
The piece defines a perfect family movie as one that works in a shared living room, doesn't talk down to anyone, gives kids momentum, jokes, and wonder, and slips something deeper to the grown-ups. It praises tight pacing, big-hearted storytelling and moments that stick, and the list includes Mrs. Doubtfire, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Home Alone, E.T., The Princess Bride, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz.
The article gives brief reasons for each choice — noting, for example, that Paddington "treats kindness like a superpower" and Mrs. Doubtfire "never pretends divorce is a joke" — and says Back to the Future "works on every level" while adding the caveat that some of its period visual effects "don’t sit well" with modern attention spans.
