10 Years Later, The Night Of Still Deserves a Season 2
Ten years on, HBO's eight-episode thriller The Night Of still feels like fertile ground for another season. The American remake of the UK series Criminal Justice features John Turturro, Riz Ahmed, Michael Kenneth Williams and Bill Camp; John Turturro took a role once associated with James Gandolfini, one of the last projects Gandolfini was attached to before his death.
At first glance the show resembles other true-crime dramas, but its release coincided with public conversations shaped by the Serial podcast, which explored the murder of Hae Min Lee and the conviction of Adnan Syed. Both Serial and The Night Of center on a Pakistani-American man—Nasir Khan in the series—being found guilty amid unanswered questions and flaws in the justice system, though The Night Of began production before Serial debuted.
Critics received the series warmly; it holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned several award nominations.
