Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent turns Descent into a digital dungeon crawler
Fantasy Flight’s 2005 board game Descent helped define the dungeon crawler board game genre. Artefacts Studio is adapting Descent into a video game called Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent, set a year before the events of Legends of the Dark and due sometime this spring.
Up to four players control a party of four heroes in turn-based combat, where positioning, terrain and each hero’s powers matter. The full campaign spans 20 dungeons, with standalone quests available and the option for new players to drop in mid-crawl. Eight adventurers are available, and party composition changes NPC reactions and environmental interactions; between delves you can upgrade equipment and level up abilities.
Earlier editions of Descent required one player to act as the Overlord, but Descent: Legends of the Dark removed that role in 2021 with a companion app. Heroes of Descent replaces the tactile setup of maps and miniatures with voice acting and animated spells and attacks.
