Tetsuya Nomura spoke with Wizards of the Coast about his role in Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy crossover, an effort he reviewed over three or four years while looking at several hundred pieces of art. The interview was published on March 10, and the crossover — which launched last June — sold $200 million worth of product in a single day.

He singled out two Sephiroth cards he approved instantly: Sephiroth, Planet’s Heir, illustrated by Magali Villeneuve and included in a Starter Kit deck, and the ultra-rare borderless Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER by MAJI. Planet’s Heir shows Sephiroth ready to swing Masamune, can wipe out weak creatures and grows stronger as enemies die; the borderless Fabled SOLDIER, popular as a mono-black commander, features a stark background, transforms into One-Winged Angel, and its surge foil currently fetches $484 on the market.
