Texas Chain Saw Massacre will leave Netflix on February 18. The Tobe Hooper-directed film is a classic that redefined the slasher genre. Co-written by Hooper and Kim Henkel, the movie follows a group of young adults who encounter a house full of demented butchers who chase them with chainsaws (and other foul weapons).

Started as an indie project, it initially struggled to find distribution but became a juggernaut that influenced a generation of filmmakers. It holds an 85% Rotten Tomatoes rating, introduced the idea of a final girl, popularized power tools as murder weapons, and made Leatherface a household name.

Made on a meager budget of $140,000 million, it earned $30.9 million at the box office. The film’s success spawned a couple of sequels, the most recent of which debuted on Netflix in 2022 and circles back to the original story, though none proved as influential as the original.
