Texas couple stuck in Dubai after cruise cancellation says US offered no help
A Texas couple says they are stranded in Dubai after their cruise was canceled amid retaliatory strikes from Iran. Karen and Bob Carifee were watching the sunset on the beach when they heard loud booms and saw black smoke from the nearby Fairmont hotel after strikes that UAE officials said were being intercepted but whose debris caused fires and ground damage.
The Carifees had planned to board the Celestyal Journey, which is stuck in Doha, and extended their stay at the Waldorf Astoria on Palm Jumeirah while they try to return home. They say they registered with the State Department and contacted the US consulate in Dubai but received little guidance; Karen Carifee said, "We did everything we were supposed to.
We registered like we were supposed to," and added she had seen the British government making plans to evacuate citizens while hearing nothing about help for Americans.
