Prime Video's new action thriller The Bluff blends Pirates of the Caribbean-style swashbuckling with John Wick-like shootouts and sword fights. Priyanka Chopra leads as Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden, with Karl Urban as Captain Connor, and the story follows a former pirate who must protect her family when the sins of her past catch up to her.

Frank E. Flowers directed and co-wrote the film with Joe Ballarini. Set in the 19th century and carrying an R-rating, The Bluff pairs period trappings with modern, viscerally violent action. The movie has climbed the streaming charts, sitting at #1 in the worldwide top 10 and holding third place in the United States alongside A Minecraft Movie, Bad Man, The Wrecking Crew, and Sinners.

Critical reaction has been split, reflected in a 54% score on Rotten Tomatoes; some reviewers criticized the film for leaning on familiar tropes and not fully committing to its premise. Still, many praised Chopra’s commanding performance and the use of the R-rating to deliver intense action sequences.
