Bridgerton’s season-by-season romances have kept viewers hooked, and after the two-part release of Season 4 some audiences may already be looking for another period escape. Apple TV+'s two-season drama The Buccaneers fits the bill, offering similar romance and opulence but with a more modern, independent bent to its female characters.

Both shows share a 19th-century England setting, glamorous parties, arranged marriages and the social pressures on young women. The Buccaneers, however, follows a group of American women who arrive in Britain and shake up society, putting female friendship and rebellion at the center.

The ensemble includes Nan (Kristine Froseth), Conchita (Alisha Boe), Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag), Mabel (Josie Totah) and Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse), and features storylines such as Conchita’s marriage to Richard (Josh Dylan) and Nan’s love triangle with Guy (Matthew Broome) and Theo (Guy Remmers).
