'The Challenger' Series Starring Kristen Stewart Greenlit at Amazon

Amazon Prime Video has ordered The Challenger, a miniseries that will star Kristen Stewart as astronaut Sally Ride. Maggie Cohn will write the series, serve as executive producer and act as showrunner. Stewart’s Nevermind label will produce alongside Amblin Entertainment and Kyra Sedgwick’s Big Swing Productions, with Sedgwick and Valerie Stadler also listed as executive producers.

The adaptation is based on Meredith E. Bagby’s 2023 book The New Guys and will examine the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster of Jan. 28, 1986, which killed seven crew members. The story will dramatize the events leading up to the accident and Ride’s work on the Rogers Commission, while also flashing back to her joining NASA in 1978 and her 1983 flight as the first American woman in space.
