The cozy game boom is the clearest trend on Steam over five years of data

The GameDiscoverCo newsletter studies how people find the games they play. Its latest look at Steam is an in-depth study of keywords in capsule descriptions — the short paragraph under a game's icon that summarizes the experience.

GameDiscoverCo compiled a spreadsheet of the top 1,000 keywords, filtering out small words like 'the' and 'but'. The raw list itself isn't revealing — 'game' tops it, followed by 'world' — but the data also isolates keywords used in games that grossed more than $100,000 LTD and breaks those trends down by year.

Across five years of data, the clearest trend the study highlights is a boom in cozy games on Steam.
