The Daily Show mocked Newsmax host Greg Kelly for his reaction to ICE's deadly shooting of nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday, Mashable reported.

In a clip played on The Daily Show, Kelly argued that the phone Pretti can be seen holding in video footage "could be mistaken for a gun," and held his own phone up as if it were a weapon, before saying, "That's crazy stuff."

Host Desi Lydic responded, "I won't disagree with you there, that is crazy stuff," and added, "And if you think this couldn't be any stupider, never underestimate Greg Kelly." The show then cut to another Kelly clip about his phone's background.

In that second clip Kelly said his phone background "I think it's like, Black Lives Matter or something," and added, "I do not support, but I can't get rid of it." Lydic called it "the most Newsmax sentence of all time" and mocked the remark, saying, "'I don't know what that is, but I do not support it.' It's amazing what you can get canceled for on the right. 'I don't support civil rights, I swear, it's a tech issue, you gotta believe me!'"

The piece notes that while some right-leaning politicians have begun to criticise the Trump administration's response to the shooting, other commentators such as Kelly have not shifted their stance. It is not established in the clips whether the phone was actually mistaken for a gun or whether Kelly or Newsmax will change their position going forward.
